If your Ring doorbell or camera will not connect to Wi-Fi, try the following steps.
Check the basics first
- Make sure your Ring device has power.
- For battery models, fully charge the battery first.
- For wired or plug-in models, check that the power supply is suitable for your Ring model.
- Restart your router.
- Unplug your router from the power socket.
- Wait around 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for the internet connection to fully return.
- Keep your phone close to the Ring device during setup.
- The phone, router and Ring device should ideally be close together while connecting.
- Check that your Wi-Fi password is correct.
- Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive.
- Try connecting your phone to the same Wi-Fi network using the same password.
- If your phone cannot connect either, the password or router settings may be the issue.
Check the Wi-Fi network
- Use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network where possible.
- Many Ring devices support 2.4 GHz.
- Some models also support 5 GHz, but 2.4 GHz usually gives better range through walls and doors.
- Avoid special characters in the Wi-Fi name.
- If your Wi-Fi name includes symbols such as apostrophes, spaces, !, @, #, $, %, or &, rename the network using simple letters and numbers, then try setup again.
- Check the distance from the router.
- If the Ring device is far from the router, move it closer for setup.
- If it works closer to the router, the issue is likely weak Wi-Fi signal at the installation location.
- A mesh Wi-Fi system, Wi-Fi extender, or Ring Chime Pro may help improve signal strength.
- Check for multiple routers.
- Having more than one active router can sometimes cause connection problems.
- Use one main router where possible, or ask your internet provider about bridge mode.
Reconnect from the Ring app
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the menu.
- Tap Devices.
- Choose the Ring device.
- Tap Device Health.
- Under Network, choose Reconnect or Change Network.
- Follow the steps shown in the app.
If it still will not connect
Try turning off VPN apps on your phone, updating the Ring app, restarting your phone and checking whether any firewall or router security settings are blocking the connection. If the device shows as registered to another owner, it will need to be released or transferred before setup can be completed.
