Ring battery life can vary depending on settings, usage, temperature and Wi-Fi signal. Frequent motion events, Live View use and weak Wi-Fi can all reduce battery life.
Check battery and power use in the Ring app
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the menu.
- Tap Devices.
- Choose your Ring doorbell or camera.
- Tap Device Settings.
- Tap Power Settings.
- Check Battery Status and Feature Power Usage.
The Ring app may show which features are using extra power.
Reduce motion activity
If the device is detecting motion very often, the battery will drain faster.
Try the following:
- Reduce Motion Sensitivity.
- Adjust Motion Zones so the device is not monitoring busy roads, pavements, trees, flags, or other areas with constant movement.
- For battery models, change Motion Frequency to Regularly or Periodically rather than Frequently.
- Turn the device slightly away from busy areas if the mounting position allows it.
- Unlink unnecessary linked Ring events if other Ring devices are triggering it too often.
Reduce Live View usage
Live View uses battery power. If the device is being checked live many times per day, the battery may drain much faster than expected.
Check the Wi-Fi signal
Weak Wi-Fi can cause the Ring device to disconnect and reconnect repeatedly, which can use more battery.
To check this:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap Devices.
- Choose the device.
- Tap Device Health.
- Check the network signal strength.
If the signal is weak, move the router closer, use a mesh system, or use a Wi-Fi extender.
Consider the temperature
Cold weather can reduce rechargeable battery performance. In colder months, the battery may drain faster and may need charging more often.
If the battery will not charge properly
- Test the plug socket with another device.
- Try another USB cable or USB power adaptor.
- Use the original Ring charging cable where possible.
- Allow enough time for charging. Some Ring batteries can take several hours to fully charge.
- If the battery is removable, make sure it clicks fully into place when refitted.
